John is an early stage venture investor with an extensive background in building technology companies. His unique skill set of having both startup operating experience and venture capital investing experience makes him an indispensable ally for early stage entrepreneurs as they work towards scaling their companies.
John was previously a Partner at Scout Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm based in New York City. He is focused on investing in early stage startups where he applied a company-building approach to helping entrepreneurs build transformative technologies. Scout Ventures has investments in over 50 companies across three funds.
Previously, John held senior product management, business development, and strategy roles in technology. John was a product manager at WebMD, where he led the creation of WebMD’s first social and mobile monetization products. He also managed all targeted sponsorship products under the Medscape product umbrella.
Prior to WebMD, John led product at AdECN, an adtech startup which was venture backed by Accel Partners and acquired by Microsoft. He joined the founding team and successfully launched the core ad exchange product, which was the predecessor to all current programmatic digital ad buying platforms.
Earlier, John led Search Products at WhenU, one of the first behaviorally targeted online advertising networks to operate at scale. The company was spun out of the Boston Consulting Group and venture backed by ABS Capital and Trident Capital, WhenU pioneered contextual targeted ads and quickly grew their networks to a $100M run rate business before being acquired by a private equity firm.
John started his career as a strategy consultant at Cap Gemini, where he worked extensively on projects in their digital incubator division, based in New York City.
John received a BA from Yale University and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
